Family tattoo ideas: hands & animals

A family tattoo can start with a gesture or an animal grouping you personally associate with the people close to you. This sheet shows two adult hands around a child’s hand, two elephants and a calf, and three birds on a branch. Each study has its own number of figures; choose a composition that fits your group rather than treating one arrangement as a definition of family.

Curated concept artwork. Placement tags suggest adaptations of flat designs; they are not on-skin previews.

A starting brief for your artist

List the people you want represented and decide whether hands, elephants or birds suit the idea. State the desired number of figures and their relative sizes. Supply any names or initials separately, then ask the artist to check hands, trunks, tails and branch spacing before adding lettering.

Details to decide together

  • For the hands, follow each visible finger to its hand and check the contact points before shading.
  • Keep the calf clearly separate from the larger elephants, with readable trunk and leg contours.
  • On the bird branch, vary spacing with purpose and leave room if you plan to add another bird later.
